MarkMyWords 2.12.0 released
![]()
MarkMyWords 2.12.0 is now available on the Mac App Store!
This update offers several improvements, bug fixes, and two new features that make MarkMyWords even more flexible.
First up is TextButler – an assistant for effortless text manipulation.
With TextButler, you can instantly adapt and refine text in MarkMyWords: whether via keyboard shortcut or menu command, at the moment you paste it in or when working with existing text. By combining "recipes" made of a set of "ingredients" such as trimming, find-and-replace, or pre-built templates, text editing becomes faster, sharper, and less cumbersome.
The second feature is a streamlined footnote tool for MultiMarkdown, making footnote creation as quick as typing. Just enter your footnote text, and MarkMyWords will automatically insert the markup and place it at the end of your document.
You can access the footnote tool from the main menu under Markup ➤ Footnote, using the button in the content-control-bar, or with the convenient F1 shortcut (fn + F1 if system function keys are enabled). This keeps your writing flow uninterrupted and handles ID management automatically so you can focus on your content.
MultiMarkdown users will also appreciate the added metadata integration in the internalparser, which provides advanced formatting possibilities, especially through using metadata variables.
As always, you’ll find a complete breakdown of changes in the list below.
The complete list of changes:
New:
- TextButler System. TextButler allows you to compile your own sets of text transformations that can be applied to selected text or text pasted from the clipboard. The following actions are available:
- Trimming spaces and custom-defined characters in a variety of ways
- Removing empty lines
- Replacing and removing words
- Inserting into a template
- Searching and replacing using regular expressions
- Actions can also be combined in recipes and adapted for different use cases.
- TextButler can be managed in the settings in the TextButler section
- In the editor, TextButler can be applied using the following menu items or the corresponding keyboard shortcuts
- Edit - Insert with TextButler
- Edit - Apply TextButler to selection
- Footnote tool for MultiMarkdown and MarkdownExtra. This tool helps you quickly create footnotes. It can be accessed via the menu entry Markup ➤ Footnote, the footnote button in the content editing toolbar, or by pressing F1 on the keyboard (fn + F1 if system control functions are enabled). After entering the footnote text, the original markup is automatically inserted at the current cursor position, and the footnote text is added to the end of the document.
Improvements:
- Improved detection and handling of files in shared Quicksave folders regarding the display of images in the preview.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed an issue with syntax highlighting and Illusion format for Markdown, MarkdownExtra, and MultiMarkdown for bold and italic elements, which could under certain circumstances lead to incorrect rendering.
- Added missing detection of image markup in Markdown, MarkdownExtra, MultiMarkdown, and Smark for syntax highlighting.
Internal Markup Parser
MultiMarkdown:
- Support for metadata syntax
- Metadata area is now recognized and no longer appears in the preview
- Metadata is integrated into the HTML header
- Support for the special attributes Title, Language, CSS, HTML Header, HTML Footer, MMD Header, and MMD Footer
- Support for metadata variables ([%meta_tag_name])
MultiMarkdown & MarkdownExtra:
- Parser for definition lists completely rewritten to fix some bugs and issues in the previous implementation
- Fixes a bug with footnotes: when multiple source references pointed to the same footnote, assignment errors occurred
