PlainPad 1.4.3 released

The new version of PlainPad is now available on the Mac App Store.

In this version, PlainPad introduces a new display option for the editor that disables automatic line wrapping. This is a feature that developers occasionally need, or for those who want to insert manual line breaks.

Changes in this version:

New:
New feature to enable and disable automatic line wrapping. This can be done either via the menu under View - Toggle Word Wrap or using the button at the bottom of the editor window. This feature toggles the behavior on a per-document basis.

Improvements:
Changes to the interface to improve compatibility with macOS Tahoe

Nyx Nox released

Nyx Nox is now available for download on the Mac App Store!

Nyx Nox is a small, lightweight PDF reader that displays PDF documents in inverted colors. This means that white elements are displayed in black and black elements in white.

Background

The development of Nyx Nox was prompted by the fact that I’ve had to work with PDFs a lot in recent months, including to test the PDF export features of my other applications. Since I prefer Dark Mode in macOS, the constant white PDFs were annoying. I also tried alternative PDF readers that offer a corresponding Dark Mode. However, they all had certain drawbacks; for example, you couldn’t open PDF documents in Finder by right-clicking and selecting the corresponding app—instead, you always had to open the documents via the selection menu. If you want to open a new document every two minutes, that quickly becomes tedious.

This bothered me so much that I decided to develop my own reader that offers the features I needed.

What Nyx Nox Offers

• Native macOS application with seamless integration
• Open PDF documents in Finder via right-click and “Open With,” or set Nyx Nox as the default PDF reader
• PDF documents are always opened with inverted colors
• Switch between inverted and normal mode
• Quick search within the PDF document via a search bar

Closing remarks

Nyx Nox is a simple application that is limited exclusively to viewing PDF documents. Since I imagine there are others who would find such a PDF reader useful, I have completed Nyx Nox to the point where it can be released on the Mac App Store.

No further functional enhancements are planned for Nyx Nox.
