27 MarkMyWords 2.13.0 released
![]()
MarkMyWords 2.13.0 is now available on the Mac App Store!
The latest update to MarkMyWords offers a variety of interesting new features across different areas.
ApexMarkdown as a New Language
The most interesting new feature is the integration of ApexMarkdown as a new language that can be used to format text. One of the major issues with Markdown is that there are various “flavors” that offer different capabilities, and there are also different content management systems that differ in their support for Markdown. Toward the end of 2025, Brett Terpstra, who is likely no stranger to Markdown enthusiasts, began developing ApexMarkdown, an interpreter designed to unify all the different “flavors” of Markdown.
Integration into MarkMyWords
ApexMarkdown is directly integrated into MarkMyWords, a separate installation is not necessary.
A particular highlight of ApexMarkdown is that it offers a wide range of options for customizing the desired language elements to suit your preferences. In addition to five different main modes (CommonMark, GFM, Kramdown, MultiMarkdown, and Universal), each of these modes can be further customized via MarkMyWords’s preferences, allowing features to be added or removed during text conversion. For example, you can add strikethrough text and task lists as features to the MultiMarkdown mode.
More Information About ApexMarkdown
On the official project page (ApexMarkdown on GitHub), you’ll find a detailed language reference in the wiki, as well as the option to download ApexMarkdown as a CLI (Command Line Interface) for use in the Terminal program.
What's new for the editor
With this update, the MarkMyWords editor receives various improvements. First, there is now the Smart Task List feature, which can both create Smart Task list items and mark these list items as done or undone using the same keyboard shortcut. Another new feature is the automatic table formatting of piped tables in MultiMarkdown, MarkdownExtra, and ApexMarkdown, which realigns the table cells on each new line according to the cell contents.
And much more
In addition to the new features just mentioned, there are many other improvements in this update. The import of DOCX and ODT documents has been completely redesigned, there are new options for exporting as PDF documents, and improvements have been made in many areas of MarkMyWords. It’s worth taking a look at the release notes.
The complete list of changes:
New:
- New Markup-Language-Option: ApexMarkdown. With ApexMarkdown, you can configure or combine various Markdown flavors (Kramdown, GFM, MultiMarkdown, CommonMark and ApexMarkdown) via the settings in MyApp. This allows you to tailor the Markdown conversion to your specific needs and take advantage of a wide range of options.
- Revised table generation in the editor for MultiMarkdown, MarkdownExtra and ApexMarkdown with automatic alignment function
- The editor now masters the automatic continuation of task lists
- New implementation of the import of DOCX and ODT files, which can now be imported with images

10 Nyx Nox released
![]()
Nyx Nox is now available for download on the Mac App Store!
Nyx Nox is a small, lightweight PDF reader that displays PDF documents in inverted colors. This means that white elements are displayed in black and black elements in white.
Background
The development of Nyx Nox was prompted by the fact that I’ve had to work with PDFs a lot in recent months, including to test the PDF export features of my other applications. Since I prefer Dark Mode in macOS, the constant white PDFs were annoying. I also tried alternative PDF readers that offer a corresponding Dark Mode. However, they all had certain drawbacks; for example, you couldn’t open PDF documents in Finder by right-clicking and selecting the corresponding app—instead, you always had to open the documents via the selection menu. If you want to open a new document every two minutes, that quickly becomes tedious.
This bothered me so much that I decided to develop my own reader that offers the features I needed.
What Nyx Nox Offers
- Native macOS application with seamless integration
- Open PDF documents in Finder via right-click and “Open With,” or set Nyx Nox as the default PDF reader
- PDF documents are always opened with inverted colors
- Switch between inverted and normal mode
- Quick search within the PDF document via a search bar
Closing remarks
Nyx Nox is a simple application that is limited exclusively to viewing PDF documents. Since I imagine there are others who would find such a PDF reader useful, I have completed Nyx Nox to the point where it can be released on the Mac App Store.
No further functional enhancements are planned for Nyx Nox.
Nyx Nox is now available for free (no ads, no subscription, no in-app purchases) on the Mac App Store.
